Bio

Alisher Ilkhamov is a pioneering figure in sociological studies in Uzbekistan. In 1990, he co-founded the country’s first private opinion research center, initially known as Expert, Ltd, later re-registered as Expert-Fikri, Ltd. Serving as its president from inception until 2001, he then assumed the position of Executive Director of Open Society Foundation – Uzbekistan. Relocating to London in 2004, he continued his work with the Open Society Foundation, focusing on human rights and anti-corruption projects. In January 2022, he founded Central Asia Due Diligence, a non-profit organization based in the U.K., and has been its leader ever since.

Alisher has authored over 130 academic, press, and analytical publications covering a wide array of topics including nation-state building, nationalism, governance, human rights, and development in post-Soviet Uzbekistan. Until 2020, he served as a member of the International Board of Central Asian Survey, a peer-reviewed academic journal published in the U.K.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Alisher is an aspiring photographer, having showcased his works at the 6th Turkish Community Art Exhibition organized by the Yunus Emre Institute London in March 2024. He is a member of the Harrow Art Society, engaging passionately in the artistic community.
